Three ways to prepare

How it works

Three steps, no classroom

1. Sit a free mock

Find out where you stand in ten minutes. Every question is in the official DVSA four-option format with the pass mark to beat.

2. Fix your weak topics

Wrong answers point you to the topic and the exact Highway Code rules to revise — so mistakes teach you the rule, not just the right letter.

3. Book with confidence

When your mock scores clear 43/50, book the real thing for £23 on GOV.UK and walk in knowing the format.

Theory test questions, answered

What is the pass mark for the driving theory test?

43 out of 50 on the multiple-choice questions, plus 44 out of 75 on hazard perception. You must pass both parts in the same sitting.

How much does the theory test cost?

£23, booked through the official GOV.UK service. Third-party booking sites charge more for the same slot — avoid them.

How long is the theory test?

The multiple-choice part is 57 minutes for 50 questions, followed by the hazard perception part with 14 video clips.

Which topics are in the theory test?

Questions are drawn from 14 official DVSA topics, including Alertness, Hazard Awareness, Road & Traffic Signs, Rules of the Road, Motorway Rules and Vulnerable Road Users. Revise all 14 — the DVSA doesn’t publish per-topic counts.
